FILM & MOUNTAIN is owned and managed by BRIAN HALL who is based in New Zealand.
Brian has over 35 years experience at the top level of mountaineering, he is an internationally qualified Mountain Guide (IFMGA) and many expeditions have taken him climbing and skiing to various mountain regions of the world; making first and landmark ascents in the European Alps, Himalaya (expeditions attempting Everest and K2) and the Americas.
Additionally Brian is a director of two related companies; the online adventure sports film website www.SteepEdge.com and a film production company www.VentureFilm.co.uk which is in partnership with extreme location cameraman Keith Partridge (www.AdventureCamera.co.uk ).
Between 1980 and 2008 Brian co-directed one of the worlds most important mountain film festivals - the Kendal Mountain Festival and co-ordinated their Adventure Film Academy, teaching film production. He continues to work on the film school at the Wanaka based NZMFF.
Brian has worked on over 100 productions in a variety of roles including Mountain Safety, Associate Producer, Second Unit Action Director, Actor and Climbing Stunts, Location Finder / Manager, Rigger, First Aid and Location Stills Photographer.
He is a technical consultant (design, training and testing) for leading outdoor equipment manufacturers including Scarpa, Grivel and Mountain Equipment
Brian co-authored ‘The Face’ for the BBC series and is a professional mountain photographer. He played the character of Dougal Haston in the film ‘The Bat’ and has directed and produced his own award winning short ‘Balance of Risk’ featuring quadruple amputee climber Jamie Andrew. Venture Film has recently completed a commissioned film, ’50 Years in the Mountains’

Organizing all of the mountain filming on the BAFTA award winning film ‘Touching the Void’ and it's sequel ‘Beckoning Silence’ Drama recreation in the Mont Blanc region for ‘Mallory – The Wildest dream’, and glacier safety on Svalbard for ‘Far North’, training and caving action on ‘Descent’. Recently and shot in NZ 'Beyond the Edge', the feature of Sir Edmund Hillary's ascent of Everest and on a similar theme Working Titles feature titled 'Everest' staring Jake Gyllenhaal and Josh Brolin.
Ski action, safety and logistics on ‘Bridget Jones’ and the James Bond ‘Die another Day’ second unit in Iceland, the spectacular ice climbing in the opening sequence of ‘Alien vs Predator’.
With Kenneth Brannagh on the ‘Shackleton’ Channel 4 Drama in Greenland and the Irish K2 drama-doc feature ‘The Summit’ and recently mountain recces for ‘The Hobbit’ in New Zealand.
Providing all the the safety and logistics on the 2011 Scottish BAFTA winning 'Great Climb' live OB for BBC2 Scotland. This also won the 2012 'Guild of Television Cameraman' awards for the whole camera team in the Extreme category... Commenting ..Exciting, dramatic, extreme. The judging panel thought that the shots added to the experience showing the viewer angles and detail they could not experience themselves. Amazing coverage in more-than-difficult conditions. This is pushing the capabilites and the crew to the extreme.
